Hong Kong stocks opened lower on Tuesday following a mixed session in European markets and a quiet US trading day due to a holiday. Futures pointed to a weaker start for the local bourse, with the Hang Seng Index slipping in early trade.
The benchmark Hang Seng Index opened down 0.63% at 25,252.07 points, while the Hang Seng Tech Index fell 0.56% and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 0.72%. The moves come as the US dollar weakened and the 10-year Treasury yield climbed to the 4.8% level, with gold prices steadying and oil holding near recent highs.
Sector-wise, internet and tech stocks were broadly lower, with Lenovo Group (SEHK: 00992) and NetEase (SEHK: 09999) both shedding over 1%. On the upside, memory-related stocks gained, with the Southern CSOP 2x Leveraged Samsung Electronics ETF advancing more than 2%. Meanwhile, select PCB concept names retreated, with Guanghe Technology falling over 1%.
The mixed open reflects ongoing caution among investors as they weigh global rate trajectories and corporate earnings against lingering geopolitical uncertainties.
