The roster of 11 new occupations includes port shore-based management engineers, digital twin engineers, embodied intelligent robot application technicians, industrial product digital modeling specialists, corporate sustainability planners, microgrid administrators, sports data analysts, traditional incense artisans, hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing workers, satellite navigation equipment installers and debuggers, and electrolytic hydrogen production operators.
Nearly half of these new roles are tied to the digital economy, such as digital twin engineers, embodied intelligent robot application technicians, industrial product digital modeling specialists, microgrid administrators, and sports data analysts. Meanwhile, three green occupations have been added: microgrid administrators, hydrogen fuel cell manufacturing workers, and electrolytic hydrogen production operators. This brings China's total count of officially recognized digital and green professions to 113 and 142, respectively.
Among the 23 newly introduced job types, several are closely connected to everyday life, including community workers, aging-friendly renovation designers, fresh-cut flower processors, and smart furniture installers and debuggers.
These roles have earned official recognition primarily because they have already attracted a significant workforce and boast substantial growth prospects for the future. In short, the demand is immense. For instance, the embodied intelligent industry currently faces a talent shortfall of one million professionals, while the need for embodied intelligent robot application technicians has surged by 30% within a single year.
With 43.97 million new energy vehicles now on the roads but fewer than 100,000 certified senior technicians available, the role of new energy vehicle inspector has become particularly sought after. In the eldercare sector, where the population aged over 60 exceeds 323 million, aging-friendly renovation designers focus on practical home modifications such as upgrading bathrooms and installing safety grab bars for seniors.
Industry experts suggest several pathways for entering these fields. Those with a background in automotive electrical work could consider technical roles like heavy vehicle maintenance or smart furniture installation and debugging. Individuals eager to pivot into emerging sectors might explore positions such as low-altitude logistics operators or intelligent agent developers. For those with steady hands and strong practical skills, traditional incense crafting, fresh-cut flower processing, or ice and snow sculpture could be excellent options.
To bolster the growth of these new occupations, the government is now advancing the "Skills Illuminate the Future" initiative, which focuses on sectors like the low-altitude economy, new energy vehicles, artificial intelligence, and eldercare services. This program aims to subsidize training for over ten million people every year.
