Hong Kong's Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, has announced that the city's Civil Aviation Department has approved more than 140 applications under its low-altitude economy regulatory sandbox since June of last year.

Chan revealed that authorities are intensifying efforts to introduce the "Regulatory Sandbox X" initiative, designed to handle more sophisticated and complex application scenarios in the sector.

She acknowledged that Hong Kong still has ground to cover to reach full international standardization levels, but expressed confidence that the city has already set foot on the right path toward that goal.

The Secretary said she hopes the public will genuinely experience that low-altitude economy applications have entered a phase of normal operations, moving beyond mere pilot tests and experimental stages.

Hong Kong's government is set to release its policy address and the first five-year development plan next week. Chan emphasized that this five-year blueprint will be critically important and decisive for the growth of the low-altitude economy.

She also noted that yesterday, during the Belt and Road Summit, Hong Kong signed a memorandum of understanding with Kazakhstan focusing on low-altitude economy development, under which both sides will strengthen cooperation in areas such as standardization, talent exchange, and experience sharing.
