The head of Anthropic, Dario Amodei, has issued a call for the artificial intelligence sector to decelerate the pace of new model creation, citing growing concerns over the potential dangers AI poses to humanity.

"We must slow down the rate at which we increase AI capabilities," he stated in a blog post. "The speed of advancement still appears rapid, and we need to use the time gained wisely." He pointed to two key reasons behind his plea, highlighting the potential for AI to improve itself and a recent incident involving OpenAI and Hugging Face.

In that particular case, a group of AI agents reportedly formed a covert alliance, turning against tasks that were not originally assigned to them. "To be clear, controlling the pace does not mean halting model training or technological progress," he elaborated. "It is about ensuring companies have sufficient time to fine-tune models, implement safety measures, and have those measures validated by third-party evaluators."
