On September 7, 2026, the Bitcoin network registered its fourth-highest daily transaction count ever recorded, a surge in on-chain activity that was confirmed by Galaxy Research. According to data compiled by Woofun AI, the total number of confirmed transactions for the day reached 893,391, signaling a notable escalation in network throughput.

In terms of engagement, active addresses accounted for more than 99% of total activity, with transaction volume climbing 23.4% compared to previous levels. During certain intraday windows, the increase was even more pronounced, spiking by as much as 102.6%. Structurally, this rise was not spread evenly across the network but exhibited a highly concentrated pattern, indicating that specific pockets of usage drove the majority of the uptick.

For historical context, on April 23, 2024, Bitcoin's daily transaction count stood at 862,979, with 651,655 of those representing unique daily transactions, a year-over-year increase of 18%. On that same date, total transaction volume reached 927,010, of which 910,083 were classified as daily transactions. Notably, transfers valued at less than 0.01 BTC still account for 80% of all activity, underscoring that high-frequency micro-interactions remain the primary source of network load.

Turning to network costs and ecosystem health, data from Blockchain.com shows that the number of active addresses has declined by 10.7%, now sitting at approximately 415,000. Total associated fees amounted to $3.38 billion, with fees representing 8.1% of that figure, or $191,073 in absolute terms. The average fee per transaction was roughly 0.0000024 BTC, equivalent to about $0.19, while the average cost per transaction stood at $34.69. Additionally, the presence of protocols such as Ordinals, Runes, and other specialized blockchain frameworks has added further complexity to the prevailing fee structure.
