20-Mu Groundbreaking Energy Storage Project Advances in Shanxi's Key Infrastructure Push

As the golden autumn season arrives, construction activity is in full swing. At the Phase II construction site of the Huaxia Yijing Shared Energy Storage Station, located in Yaodianzi Village, Yijing Town, Shenchi County, rows of prefabricated energy storage cabins are neatly arranged. Construction crews are working diligently around the clock to complete the secondary electrical system commissioning, racing against the schedule. This project, a key renewable energy initiative for Shenchi County, is aiming for grid connection and full operation by October this year.

The Phase II extension of the Huaxia Yijing facility, invested in and built by Beijing Xiachu Technology Group, boasts a total construction scale of 200MW/400MWh and occupies approximately 20 mu of land (about 1.3 hectares). The project scope includes the installation of 40 prefabricated cabin storage units featuring lithium iron phosphate batteries. Groundbreaking took place this April, and remarkably, the team has already efficiently completed civil works, hoisting, and electrical installation within just a few months, currently advancing into the crucial stage of secondary electrical commissioning.

The project employs advanced liquid-cooled energy storage technology and will be connected to the Shanxi power grid. By utilizing prefabricated cabin modular construction and a low-personnel, intelligent operation and maintenance model, the project has effectively compressed the construction timeline while ensuring high build quality and future operational efficiency.

Wang Wei, the station manager, explained that the Phase II project features 40 independent storage systems and represents a comprehensive upgrade over Phase I. The integrated design of the transformer box, PCS, and storage unit significantly reduces the station's spatial footprint, enhancing land efficiency. The entire station is also outfitted with a perfluorohexanone fire suppression system, which greatly improves battery safety during operation. The system is capable of millisecond-level voltage and frequency regulation, fully conforming to the national grid's requirements for standalone storage projects, thereby ensuring exceptional operational stability and reliability.

Safety protection and cutting-edge technology are the standout advantages of this project. The station is equipped with both a PACK-level perfluorohexanone fire suppression system and a water spray cooling device, creating a comprehensive, multi-layered safety barrier. Furthermore, the project is built on a cluster-level independent PCS grid-forming control architecture, which allows for independent control of each battery cluster. This provides millisecond-level frequency regulation, black start capability, and inertia support. With a frequency response time of under 400 milliseconds, the system can rapidly smooth out fluctuations from renewable energy generation, efficiently meeting grid dispatch demands.

"By expanding on the existing substation from Phase I, we have effectively conserved land resources and auxiliary investment," said Yu Chunlei, the project manager. He highlighted that the advanced storage technology will effectively address the challenge of integrating wind and solar power in the Xinzhou region, helping to reduce the rate of curtailment. Once operational, the station will play a vital role in grid peak shaving and rapid frequency and voltage regulation, bolstering the stability of the regional power grid and providing robust support for the local energy transition.

In recent years, the new energy industry cluster in Shenchi County has been taking shape at an accelerated pace, with a number of key storage, wind, and solar projects being launched and becoming operational.
