Bitcoin-Related Stocks Slip as Senate Moves Toward Key Crypto Vote

On Tuesday, shares of bitcoin-linked companies reversed course and moved lower, giving back some of the sharp gains they had posted in the previous session. The pullback comes as investors turn their attention to a significant legislative development in Washington.

Among the notable decliners, Circle (CRCL.US) fell more than 8%, while Coinbase (COIN.US) dropped over 6%. Other names in the sector also struggled, with Bitmine (BMNR.US) down more than 5.7% and Strategy (MSTR.US) losing over 4%. Robinhood (HOOD.US) also traded lower, shedding more than 3.7% during the session.

On the news front, the U.S. Senate is preparing for a crucial procedural vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act. This proposed legislation aims to establish the nation's first comprehensive regulatory framework for crypto assets, outlining which digital currencies would fall under the jurisdiction of the SEC versus the CFTC. It also seeks to set rules governing trading platforms, decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols, and anti-money laundering measures.

It is important to note that Tuesday's vote does not determine whether the bill will ultimately become law. Instead, the vote is designed to end procedural delays and move the legislation forward to the formal Senate deliberation phase. Under Senate rules, this procedural step requires a supermajority of 60 votes to succeed.
