40 Hydrogen-Powered Trucks Deploy in Southwest China, Marking a Zero-Carbon Shift for Phosphate Logistics

A fleet of 40 hydrogen fuel cell heavy-duty trucks was officially handed over during a ceremony in Deyang, Sichuan, on September 4th, marking a collaborative delivery between Hydrogen Energy Group, Wudao Source Logistics, and Leshan Xinghui Transportation. This single-batch deployment represents the largest such delivery of hydrogen trucks in Sichuan province to date and now stands as a new benchmark for green logistics in the industrial and mining sector across the Chongqing-Sichuan region.

These hydrogen heavy-duty trucks are primarily tasked with transporting bulk phosphate materials along a key corridor stretching from Mianzhu through Chengdu, Ya'an, and Xichang, all the way to Panzhihua, covering a one-way distance of approximately 700 kilometers. As the vehicles are gradually phased into service, they will systematically replace conventional diesel trucks with zero-carbon capacity, driving a greener and more sustainable upgrade of the phosphate bulk transportation model in the region.

A significant economic advantage accompanies this green transition, as the fleet will capitalize on Sichuan's preferential highway toll policies for hydrogen vehicles. Each truck is projected to save more than 250,000 yuan in annual expressway fees, achieving a dual win of significant cost reduction and enhanced operational efficiency alongside substantial carbon emission cuts.

Sichuan is currently accelerating the expansion and upgrade of the 'Chengdu-Chongqing Hydrogen Corridor,' with particular focus on developing several dedicated green hydrogen routes, including the 'Panzhihua-Xichang-Ya'an-Chengdu' line, to broaden the application of hydrogen energy in transportation. By leveraging Hydrogen Energy Group's technical expertise in hydrogen truck development, Wudao Source Logistics' robust industrial presence in phosphate trading and haulage, and Leshan Xinghui Transportation's mature experience in long-haul bulk logistics, the three partners are poised to jointly establish a large-scale demonstration line for hydrogen-powered phosphate transport in the southwest.

Looking ahead, the collaboration is set to expand its footprint by launching new routes, including phosphate shipments from Yibin Port to Leshan and the transportation of steel and coke for Dazhou Steel Group. These initiatives are designed to continuously broaden the scope of heavy-load logistics demonstration projects, accelerate the green and low-carbon transformation of regional transportation, and propel the large-scale advancement of the hydrogen industry.
