An estimated 29 per cent of that sits in the higher-confidence indicated resource category.The resource comprises 10.6Mt of open pit material for 496,000 ounces of gold and 3.1Mt of underground resources for 259,000 ounces of gold.The impressive inventory growth came almost entirely from the Burbanks North area, vindicating the company’s recent drilling efforts, which included both diamond and reverse circulation (RC) drilling between June 2025 and March 2026.Burbanks is no stranger to high grades, with a rich history of underground mining. Gold production at the long-lived old show reportedly churned out 324,000 ounces at a stunning average grade of 22.7g/t gold between 1885 and 1961. Maritana says many of the key high-grade areas remain open and offer significant upside potential.Unsurprisingly, the company is evaluating its burgeoning Burbanks resource as a potential new feed source for its flagship asset, the Black Swan processing hub, which is in an advanced stage of conversion, refurbishing and development. Maritana aims to establish Black Swan as a centralised gold processing facility with a recently increased design capacity of 2.5 million tonnes per annum.The company is moving with purpose towards production, with an initial construction camp already established on-site targeting the onset of plant construction in the third quarter of this year and a first gold pour in the second half of 2027. Management’s stated objective is to become a 100,000-ounce-per-year gold producer.This update lifts our Burbanks deposit to 755,000 ounces, a 62% increase in contained gold, and takes Maritana’s Mineral Resource above 2 million ounces. The growth has come almost entirely from the Burbanks North area, with many other key high grade areas remaining open and offering further upside. Maritana Minerals managing director and chief executive officer Grant HaywoodCrucially, Maritana appears to have the financial horsepower to see its plans through. Following a successful A$175 million placement earlier in the year, the company’s June quarterly report showed a healthy cash balance of $229.5 million and no debt. Management says it is now fully funded to complete and commission the Black Swan plant and bring its initial mines into production to feed it.The company has also bolstered its operational leadership, recently appointing Elizabeth Jones as chief operating officer. Ms Jones brings over 30 years of mining experience, including a recent stint as general manager of Ramelius Resources’ Mt Magnet gold operations.While the Burbanks upgrade is a significant step, Maritana is not resting on its laurels. A new RC drilling program is slated to begin at Burbanks South in the coming quarter and a further resource update for the broader Burbanks project is planned for early next year, followed by ore reserve studies.In parallel, a massive 60,000m resource conversion drilling campaign is underway across several of its other deposits, including Boorara, Coote and Crake, designed to upgrade inferred resources to the indicated category and further reinforce the company’s mine plan for the Black Swan hub.Cracking the two million ounce mark is a significant milestone for any junior explorer, but for Maritana, it looks less like a finish line and more like the firing of a starting gun.
