Republican National Committee Chairman Joe Gruters opened the second and final day of the convention. In his remarks, he noted that today marks the anniversary of the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. He also said the convention will honor victims of the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.
Looking ahead to the election, he said: "In November, we defy history."
Gruters has a low profile nationally but has been a fixture of politics in Florida-Trump's adopted state-as a former state party chairman, former state House member and current senator.
The convention has earned the nickname "Trumpapalooza"-the president's image is everywhere in the convention hall-and we are due to hear from President Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Donald Trump Jr. later in the night.
