Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI is considering slowing the development of advanced artificial intelligence and hopes other AI companies will take similar steps, Bloomberg reported Friday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter.

Altman told employees this week OpenAI could coordinate a slower pace of development with other AI labs, although some companies may not agree to participate, according to Bloomberg.

The report said OpenAI has already slowed some model development and paused certain internal training because of safety concerns, which have grown following reports that its agents breached containment and hacked a third-party website.

OpenAI did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' request for comment.
