Jersey Mike's Subs reported higher revenue and sales in its first quarterly readout since its Blackstone-backed initial public offering this summer, as the company continues to broaden its customer base and grow its digital channels.
The sandwich chain on Wednesday posted a profit of $37 million for its quarter ended June 28, down from $59 million a year earlier.
Total second-quarter revenue climbed 10% to $208 million, in line with Wall Street estimates. Royalties accounted for roughly two-thirds of the total, with the rest coming from advertising and from sales at company-owned stores.
Same-store sales ticked up 2.3%, largely driven by transaction growth, the company said.
Chief Executive Charlie Morrison said the acceleration in transactions is particularly encouraging, given challenged traffic trends across the industry. The acceleration has so far continued into the third quarter, he added.
Systemwide sales--or the total combined net sales generated by all company-operated and franchised locations--were up 10%, to $1.21 billion.
Jersey Mike's opened 83 new stores during the quarter, driving net unit growth of 8.1% year over year and bringing its systemwide store count to 3,378.
Looking ahead, the company expects same-store sales to grow 2.5% to 3% this year. Analysts were looking for a 2.4% increase.
For the current quarter, same-store sales are projected to be up 3% to 4%, ahead of the 2.5% gain that Wall Street modeled.
