Alphabet's (GOOG, GOOGL) Google, Microsoft-backed (MSFT) OpenAI and Amazon-backed (AMZN) Anthropic have been in talks over establishing a standards organization for the artificial intelligence sector, The Information reported Sunday, citing unnamed sources familiar with the matter.

The discussions started before Anthropic Chief Executive Dario Amodei called on AI companies to work together on voluntary safety standards that will test and audit AI technology in a Saturday post on social media platform X, according to the reported.

One of the sources told The Information that OpenAI CEO Sam Altman also indicated his support for an AI standards body at a recent company town hall.

Google, OpenAI and Anthropic did not immediately respond to MT Newswires' requests for comments.
